Interfaith Pride service set for Friday, June 16

As the kick-offto Pride Weekend, Chevrei Tikva, Cleveland's synagogue with an outreach to the Jewish gay and lesbian community, will once again sponsor its annual Interfaith Pride Service to be held at the Unitarian Society, at 2728 Lancashire Road, Cleveland Hts. on Friday night, June 16 at 8:00 pm. As always, members of all faiths, gay and straight, are invited to attend the service. Every year our attendance has grown and we believe this year will be no different.

This service gives members of the lesbian and gay community the chance to get together prior to the weekend's activities. At press time, members from Chevrei Tikva, Archwood United Church of Christ, Dignity (Catholic), Emmanuel Christian Fellowship,

Interweave, Liberation United Church of Christ, Lutherans Concerned and Unitarian Society of Cleveland will participate in the service. The evening's speaker will be a representative from the lesbian and gay interfaith community.

Those in attendance will be able to see and hear the inaugural performance of a new gay and lesbian a cappella choir known as Good Company. In addition, for this event, there will be a combined choir comprised of members from Chevrei Tikva and Liberation U.C.C.

Regardless of your religious affiliation, this uplifting and spiritual service is a great way to start Pride Weekend.

Following the service, refreshments will be served.

"Some of us have had religion and fear tactics forced upon us, so the last thing we want to hear about is God," said Downing, a long time member of the group. "Yet we miss the family and friendships we used to have, so we have found a group of friends who accept us as we are."
